We have all been to the wedding, or have seen it on t.v., where the bride has ordered a cake that hovers over us like Kilimanjaro. The image remains impressive in my mind… but was it absolutely necessary? Well ladies, not for 2010. Yes, sure, the platinum wedding girls will remain the ones with the mile high cakes, but this season the look is cascading cakes. Call it Retro, call it Rockabilly, call it what you will, but this season watch out wedding-goers because you may just get knocked off you feet by this latest craze! So, we have all heard the term “Retro” used a lot lately in terms of fashion and décor, but really what are we talking about. Not completely sure myself, I Wiki’d it! I know pretty funny. So the “official” definition reads that “Retro” is a culturally outdated or aged style, trend, or fashion, from the postmodern past, but have since become functional or superficially the norm once again… okay so Vintage? Take back your passion for color and use it. Make your wedding one big pink bonanza or use it as accents and incorporate it in small amounts into your wedding décor. Move over cake and hello forgotten sweets! I guess Marie was wrong when she said “let them eat cake”, because now they want a whole assortment of confectionery delights. This year the buzz on the street for wedding treats is the “dessert bar”. Couples all over are setting up huge spreads at their wedding for desserts. No longer will we wonder weather or not to have a slice of cake, now we can just indulge in decadence. (more…)

We have been seeing a large usage of color alternatives for weddings over the last few seasons. Designers have been choosing to use more “earthy” shades for their designs. We’ve seen a lot of browns, oranges, and gold. But no one can deny our most sultry shade any longer. Black is back and it’s taking the 2010 wedding season by storm. With brides all over riding the “vintage” wave, black has really stepped back onto the scene. This season, expect to find all areas of wedding themes using (at least) a trace of this color. (more…)
