While leafing through the latest issue of Elegant Bride (Fall 2009), my eye was immediately drawn to the “Peak of Chic” article. Their theme, black and white with shades of pink flowers and floral patterns. Their inspiration, the one and only Dorothy Draper who revolutionized the world of interior design when she stepped onto the scene in the mid 1920′s. Inventing the style “Modern Baroque”, she left her impression in many popular venues worldwide that people traffic today!
Throughout the spread you can see that her work was indeed the inspiration for this shoot. I love the vibrant colors and floral patterns. The draping across the door is divine and gives a magnificent sense “sophisticated chic”, while not loosing it’s luxe appeal. The bold floral pattern of the chair when paired with an antique rose bouquet and gold accents lends to a “playful” feeling and makes an inviting statement. One of our wedding invitation sets are based upon this design theory.
Even Martha Stewart would have to agree that this look is truly amazing! I think this theme could serve as inspiration for almost any bride. The look is great for a variety of themes; from the popular “vintage” look, to evening casual, to the contemporary couple that still wants that look of luxury. Mix and match florals with stripes, add bold solids that make a presence like black, white, and gold. Don’t be afraid to incorporate a wide palate of color. Take a tip from the lady who invented style way before my guru Martha Stewart hit the scene….”Entertaining is fun!”. Keep this in mind as you plan your own wedding and it’s a guarantee for success!
