“Oh the weather outside is frightful”… a great seasonal song we love to sing along to on the radio as we prepare for the Holidays! The holiday season sends a special warmth through our souls and compels us to look for the best in those around us and makes us thankful for all the special people we have in our lives. It is also a popular time of year to have a wedding! Though most couples shy away from the thought of having a winter wedding, there are many brave souls that cast mother natures daunting threats to the side and wed. Winter weddings are beautiful no matter what part of the country your are in. Though, us Yankee girls know what a cold blast these months can bring! Keep your wedding day ensemble the peak of chic with these amazing winter accessories.
Winterizing
The theme for the next few months will be “Winterizing”. We do it to our cars (and our closets lol!), why not our wedding day attire? Let’s face it, the men get off easy again with this one. We hear them moan and groan in the summer months, but this time its our turn! We are going to look fabulous no matter what, but if you are into accessories this is your time to shine. Take traditional items we use as outerwear and modify them into pieces to perfect for your wedding day look. From boots to fabulous fur wraps, designers have really outdone themselves this year in the wedding industry. Some of the looks are fierce and may be intimidating, but they are really what the season is all about… shiny metals, crystal, luxe fabric, fur… I could just die. Wrap me up and let me loose ’cause this is what I’m all about!

Coats, shrugs, and wraps
Start with items you know are essential and move on form there. Number one: a coat, shrug, wrap, or some other form of outerwear. You don’t have to keep this accessory for just outside if you pick wisely. In all honesty I love the wrap look. For you frugal or animal lovers, your wrap does not have to be fur. Faux looks just as nice and is definitely more affordable. If fur is something you are interested in, look into renting a wrap for the evening or search the consignment shops. The vintage look isn’t going away anytime soon, so use it to your full advantage! What eras encompass more fashion icons and glam than the 1930′s to 1960′s. Channel Grace, Audrey, Gene, Coco, and Jackie O and use them as inspiration.

Get thrifty with your cozy winter accessories
While you’re sifting the vintage racks, make time to look at the other accessories like hats and gloves. You should be able to find really neat vintage tea or car gloves you can use both indoor and out. Hats I understand are not the first on the list of accessories for most brides, but there are some girls out there that will disagree. For you ladies brave enough to put a hat over your styled tresses, I say “go for it!” You will look unique and elegant. You girls not brave enough to rock a hat, try the birdcage veil. Many of them have involve a small comb to clip in place. You can leave your hair accessories on the entire day or ditch them when you get to the reception. All will keep you warm going to and from your wedding day destinations and will look amazing in photos!

Traditional shoes or boots with the furs?
So I bet you are asking yourself , “but what about the shoes?” That is tough, and I don’t really have a good answer either. I’ve seen brides wear a variety of shoes. There are designer boots available to wear under your dress, or keep with the traditional dress shoe. No one really sees your shoes under your dress until you give them a sneak peak! I think if you plan to go with a more refined or classic vintage look then keep with a really posh dress shoe. If you are a little more quirky or casual, you can definitely pull off a fashion boot! One of my favorite looks over the last few years is footwear is the bootlet, or ankle bootie. You have more coverage near your ankle, but still get the great overall high fashion look of a great pair of pumps!

Bottom line ladies; for your wedding day winterization it’s like Burger King… “Have it your way!” If you feel you look beautiful, then everyone else will believe it! Be brave, and take your pics outside in these winter months. Mother nature may try to throw a mean punch, but she can’t beat great fashion.

OMG brides…hope you like these really neat looks!
I would love to know what brand boots are pictured here. I love them!
Ok, so the heeled bootlets are from Salvatore Ferragamo and the tall lace-ups I’m still working to find! I’ll post it when I do…I love them as well!!
I have figured out the other boots are by Sporto and they are called Eva but I don’t think they make them anywhere. I have searched and searched and can’t find a site where you can purchase them.
That was what I was coming up with too! I’ve literally spent the last 2 weeks researching these boots. I even tried emailing Zapos and Piperlime….nothing turned up! They do have model called “Kristen”, but they don’t come in white. I’m guessing they are not making them any more. The photographers’ blog where I found them was from 2008…sorry. They are still soooo cute though!
The Sporto “gracie” has a similar look but is in suede. They are only $50 on ebay!
